Focus on #TechQuity: Influencing Health Literacy, Equity and Disparities with Spanish-Speaking Communities

If Hispanics in the United States were a country, they would be the second-largest Spanish-speaking country in the world and, with $1.5 trillion in buying power, the 15th largest consumer economy in the world. This rapidly growing population faces significant health disparities, including:

  • Hispanic women contract cervical cancer at twice the rate of white women.
  • Hispanics are more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes, and are twice as likely to die of the disease compared to non-Hispanic whites.
  • Physicians are less likely to detect depression in Hispanics, and Hispanics are 50 percent less likely to receive mental health treatment or counseling.

Watch this special #TechQuity edition of SDOH MasterClass to explore technology’s impact on health literacy, health equity, and health disparities that, while always a topic of concern, have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide civil unrest.
